Smokey

By Ashley Dunham

You left me with a new person a new life

My owner the girl I licked salty tears away as you cried

The girl I loved so much

You left me

I was never to see your smiling face again

I knew that

The touch of your hand petting my smoky fur

The giggles you made when I tripped over my paws

The fear you had when I was stuck up a tree

Even in all that love

You left me

But as I lay here my furry cat growing cold

Taking its last breaths

I don't think of the fact that you left me

And as I drift into peace I think of the love you gave me
