Waterskiing

by A. J. Lindquist

I hopped in the water with my skis and life jacket

on.  One ski loose so I can lift up my foot and ski

on one ski.  The rope is tight, the tension building.

I yell, HIT IT and my dad pushes the lever down

and we're off.  After about thirty seconds I lift up

my foot and I wobble and wobble and wobble until

I finally get my foot in the slot.  I lean to the right and

I'm out of the wake.  I lean hard to the left and water

sprays three feet high, then falls onto the lake with a

splash. My yellow and black skis shine in the sunlight.
